skincare sunday: neutrogena visibly clear wash/mask

Hi there!

Time for this months skincare sunday, woo hoo! Can you tell how exciting my life is that I'm actually getting excited to talk about skincare? Right, okay let's move on. This month I thought I'd talk about a staple product of mine that I use a couple of times a fortnight when I'm having a pamper evening or to give my skin a bit of a pick me up! If my skin is going through a particuarly bad patch then I will definitely reach for this Neutrogena Visibly Clear 2 in 1 wash and mask to help clear up any spots or redness.

Something about the smell and consistency of this product makes me come back to it again and again because it's just SO easy to apply! The product itself is a kind of hybrid between a wash and a mask so you can wash it off straight away for a more simple and quick skin refresh or leave it on for longer as a face mask to give your skin a deeper more nourishing cleanse. I only really use this product as a mask because I feel like I have other washes and cleansers that are a bit more effective but I would definitely recommend this is you're looking for an affordable face mask to give your skin a treat every now and then! I usually apply the mask when I'm in the bath so that not only does it have time to really work but also so that the heat from the bath can help open my pores and give my skin a little TLC. The only fault I have with the Neutrogena visibly clear mask is that it is a little difficult to wash off and does need a bit of extra muslin cloth washing to completely remove it from your skin but overall I definitely think the improvement I can see in my skins look after this outweighs any negatives!Neutrogena is such an affordable brand and as it's from the drugstore it should be really easy to get hold of for most of you! If you're looking for a slightly cheaper alternative to the more expensive masks out there then this is definitely the one.

Soap and Glory favourites

Hi there!

Soap and Glory is definitely one of my most loved drugstore brands of all time and I always find myself browsing their stand in Boots when I probably should refrain from spending any more money...Moving on from my guilt about spending so much lately, I thought I'd share my top 3 products from Soap and Glory and encourage you guys to go crazy and buy them all too so I feel better about my spending (nice blogger tactics right there).

First is probably my most loved and the most talked about product from S&G which is their Righteous Butter. I absolutey hate (and yes hate is a strong word) moisturising after a bath/shower so to find a product that actually makes this chore a little less boring is amazing. The Righteous butter is the most incredible smelling body butter e v e r and the scent lingers on my skin for so long leaving not only smooth but also great smelling skin too! It sinks in super quickly too so no need for awkward dancing around the bathroom waiting for this to sink in (unless you like doing that, if so feel free to do that anyway). Also the full sized product is huge so will last a super long time and the travel friendly packaging makes it even more convenient. Could I sing its praises any more?

Any product in mini/travel form is like a magnet calling to me across Boots, they're just so darn cute! When I went on holiday last year I picked up the Glad Hair Day shampoo and have since been using it in rotation with a couple of others because it leaves my hair in the nicest condition and the perfect texture for styling. I find that some shampoo's make my hair too soft and slippery making it impossible to get any volume or to style but this one from Soap and Glory is far more effective in keeping my hair just right! Not only that but as will all products from S&G it smells amazing too.

Lastly is a relatively new discovery but one that I'm completely in love with and is the Calm One Calm All bubble bath. As you may be able to guess from the name of this one, it claims to relax and calm which I would 100% agree with and is one of the main reasons I go back to this bubble bath again and again. It honestly helps to de-stress me SO much and also leaves my skin super soft so it's a bit of a win-win situation! I would definitely recommend this one for exam season (which I think is over for almost everybody now but oh well!) or just in general if you're looking for an amazing smelling bath product.

summer baking: lemon and raspberry muffins

Hi there!

It's been such a long time since I last did a baking post so I thought it would be nice to include a summery recipe to inspire me to do some more baking in the warmer weather. Muffins/cupcakes are my favourite thing to bake so I decided to make some lemon and raspberry muffins! Because I seem to attract bad luck for most of my life, my weighing scales decided to break half way through resulting in me having to guess the quantities of each ingredients but I think they still turned out okay (I hooe). I used Mary Berry's recipe purely because I love the Great British Bake Off a little excessively and she just seems like a pretty cool lady (yep I really did just say that) The recipe is super easy and quick so it's even more perfect right? :)

125g of unsalted butter
125g of self raising flour
125g of caster sugar
2tbsp of milk
2 eggs
1 lemon

1) Pre heat your oven to 180c/gas mark 4
2) Take a large bowl and mix together the butter and sugar with an electric whisk until the consistency is smooth
3) Beat the egg in a seperate bowl and then add into the butter and sugar mixture and combine.
4) Add in the milk and flour to the bowl with the other ingredients and combine slowly
5) Grate in some lemon zest (you can also add a squeeze of lemon juice if you want a more lemony muffin!)
6)Gently put some raspberries into the mixture and mix them together (try to avoid squashing them with your spoon as you mix!) Finally spoon the mixture into cupcake/muffin cases
7) Place in the oven for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown

After my muffins were cooked I sprinkled some icing sugar over the top which not only looks pretty but also adds a little more of a sweet taste to counteract the bitterness of the raspberries! Let me know if you re create this recipe, I'd love to see :)

lush loves

Hi there!

I've mentioned in previous posts my love for all things bath bombs so it's probably no surprise that Lush is up there as one of my favourite shops! I'm currently writing this post the day after picking up an unnecessary amount of bath bombs from my local Lush store and oh my does my bedroom now smell amazing (another bonus of buying from Lush!). The first product that I was really drawn to was The Comforter which coincidentally is one of the prettiest Lush bath products ever as well as smelling just like raspberries. I'm not usually one for fruity scented products but this is an exception because combined with the colour (you may notice a reoccurring theme of pink...) it leaves bath water feeling so silky smooth and relaxing making it a real winner for me. The comforter is a bath melt so you just crumble a little under running water to create amazing smelling bubbles and turn your bath a gorgeous shade of pink. This was £4.50 which I think is so affordable considering the amount of baths you could get out of this so I'd definitely recommend picking this one up next time you're near a Lush.

Rose scented products are always something I love so I couldn't resist picking up the cutest little pink thing (nice terminology) called the RoseJam Bubbleroon. This is probably my favourite purchase because it really does smell amazing and is described on the website as being great for cheering you up after a long day and being mood boosting. I kind of wish I discovered this whilst I was doing my exams! Again this is a bubble bar so just crumble a bit under running water and you're good to go...simple and smells incredible too, what more could you want?! I also picked up another bubble bar but I'm putting that together as part of my friends birthday present so I thought it was best not to include that in this post just in case she is reading (hi ellie if you are)! The lovely lady who was working in the Lush store was literally the nicest shop assistant I've ever spoken too and complimented me on my dress and even gave a free Godmother soap! I'm completely in love with this because it smells JUST LIKE Snowfairy (favourite Lush fragrance ever!) and was such a lovely addition to my already equally lovely purchases. I wonder how many times I can say lovely in one post?

Writing this post and browsing the Lush website has made me want even more bath products (I know, I have a problem) so expect another Lush haul soon!

ps. I also picked up the little Charity Pot for £1 which is a 10g pot of a gorgeous face and body cream with all proceeds going to help support charity. Definitely worth paying an extra pound at the till to help out others (and it smells pretty darn good too!)

Phone case amazing-ness

Hi there!

If any of my lovely blog readers also follow my instagram (_charlottesweb) then you will probably know about my long standing love for a lovely little company called Sighh Designs. I first started following Polly the girl behind these adorable phone cases a couple of years ago and it has been amazing to watch her post little doodles from her graphics projects to her turning these designs into phone cases and pocket mirrors! I know this post isn't beauty related and doesn't fit with my normal blogging style but I really just wanted to share a bit about Sighh designs because I'm sure you'll all agree that they are the perfect phone case accessory!

There are a whole range of case designs on Polly's website so there if you take a browse there is definitely something to appeal to everyone. My most recent purchase from her shop is the 'I'm not taking a selfie case' which I adore and have had so many compliments from too! I have a little button that links directly to the Sighh Designs website on the right of my blog but I'll also be leaving a link at the end of this post if you want to get your hands on some of her products yourself. One of the main reasons I've purchased from Polly numerous times is because of the amazing ethos behind her shop and how it has grown through her own hard work and dedication to it. It feels really nice to support smaller businesses and the quality of the cases also means its tempting to buy every single one...

On one occasion I had a problem with my order and not only was this sorted out quickly and efficiently but a free case was also included with my order to apologise for any inconvenience that may have been caused. Not only was this super lovely but it was completely unexpected and it really shows how nice it is to support smaller shops as you get so much more contact with the owner! Most of Polly's cases are sold for £14 which I think is such a great price for the quality of case you receive but also is super reasonable compared with other designers selling similar products! The pocket mirrors that are also available I would again recommend as the perfect little extra for a friends birthday or just as a treat for yourself to help with every embarrassing make up situation that may occur!

As I said I'll leave the link to Polly's shop at the end of this post, let me know in the comments if you decide to buy anything and which case/mirror you go for! I'd love to know :)

flower power and clashing prints

Hi there!

I visited my grandparents with my family a couple of weeks ago and took the opportunity to take some snaps of one of my favorite outfits at the moment in a rather picturesque setting. I don't know why but I always feel like I can never find any nice areas to shoot OOTD photos near where I live which is weird because I spend pretty much all of my time in Cambridge which is super cute..hmm maybe I just need to be less fussy with how my photos look. I've been wearing this outfit a lot lately because it's really comfortable but the clashing patterns of the floral skirt and striped top make it look surprisingly put together. I wear my Topshop chelsea boots non stop so it's not shock that they have made an appearance in this outfit and yet again I'm also wearing my Alphabet Bags tote (never going to stop loving this). My crop tee is from Topshop and the Skirt was from H&M and I just really love the combination of these two pieces together.

Loving lately and update

Hi there!

Long time no speak (write...I don't know?) As many of you will know I was in the middle of exams last time I posted on my blog and oh my let me assure you the stress levels were high. I decided to take some time away from blogging (*cries*) to focus on revision and was going to write a whole separate post letting you all know but I didn't really know what to say apart from the fact I'd be away for a while! My last exam was actually on the 22nd May but I thought it would be nice to just take a month away from blogging and start posting regularly again in June, wooo! So now that little update is done and out of the way I thought I'd share a couple of products I've been loving lately.

One of the main things I've been loving at the moment and using on a daily basis is my Mac 217 brush. I've had this for months and months now so I have no idea why I haven't mentioned this before but it really does make blending eyeshadow unbelievably simple! For my day to day make up I usually just use this brush to blend a little bit of my bronzer (at the moment I'm loving the Philosophy divine blushing bronzer)through the crease of my eyelid to create a bit more warm and depth to my eyes and this also looks amazing with winged liner. Mac's 217 is super soft and just makes blending out eyeshadow a dream! Definitely recommend this one if you're looking for an all round perfect blending brush.

Continuing with the theme of eyes I've also been really enjoying an eyeshadow from Maybelline in the shade 'Chocolate Chic'. This is quite a deep brown shade which I think works really well for a brown smokey eye or for more everyday make up it looks lovely to line the upper lashes. Maybelline is such an affordable brand so if you're looking for some really pigmented and good quality eyeshadows then definitely check them out!

A product that I've seen allllll over instagram over the past year or so is the lip balms from the brand Balmi which come in the most adorable packaging ever. If you're a regular reader you'll know I'm a sucker for pretty packaging so this was immediately a winner for me. I mainly use this lip balm as an overnight lip treatment as I find it is quite heavy to wear as a base for a lipstick but is perfect for nourishing your lips during the night. I think I'll definitely be repurchasing another Balmi when I've used all of this one because it's so lovely (and also I just really want to try the other colours...)

The final product I've been really enjoying at the moment is the Barry M gelly nail range, in particular the colour 'Lychee'. This is one of the only nude shade polishes that I own as I'm not usually seen wearing anything other than a blue or pink nail but recently I've been loving this plainer colour. The formula of the Gelly polishes is amazing and they glide over the nails looking completely opaque in just two coats with no streaks at all. I love Essie and Models Own for nail varnishes too but the Gelly range from Barry M is definitely a rival to my more pricey polish alternatives!

Let me know which products you've been loving at the moment because I'm heading to London on the 7th of June for One Direction's WWA tour (I'M SO EXCITED) and am planning a huge shopping spree beforehand, yay! I'm so happy to be back posting again (I didn't even realise how much I would miss uploading) so do let me know if you have any posts in particular that you would like to see :)
